Maine Governor Paul Lepage is expected to issue an executive order that could oust sheriffs who are soft on illegal immigration from office.

 One America News:

Lepage made the announcement Monday during a radio interview on the “Laura Ingraham Show.”
The governor’s comments come in response to reports of sheriffs in the state failing to comply with requests from ICE.
This comes after Sheriff Kevin Joyce commented last week that county jails will no longer hold prisoners past their release dates due to suspected violations of immigration law.
“I’m issuing an executive order right now, because we have a couple sheriffs who say they’re not going to be working with ICE,” said Governor Lepage. “Well, unbeknownst to them, the Maine Constitution says if they don’t follow state law that I can remove them, so there’s likelihood you’re going to be hearing some stories about sheriffs being removed from their duties.”
A spokeswoman for the governor denied official removal proceedings have begun for any sheriffs in the state.
