Costa Rica Sets Sights On Becoming Independent Of Fossil Fuel By 2021

Mother Nature Network reports that newly elected Costa Rica President Carlos Alvarado pledged at his inauguration ceremony that by 2021 the Central American nation will have completely become independent from fossil fuels. Alvarado, a 38-year-old former journalist and member of the left-leaning Citizens' Action Party, said, "Decarbonisation is the great task of our generation and Costa Rica must be one of the first countries in the world to accomplish it, if not the first. We have the titanic and beautiful task of abolishing the use of fossil fuels in our economy to make way for the use of clean and renewable energies." MMN reports that for Costa Rica, which already boasts strong conservation laws and a booming ecotourism industry, reaching such a formidable goal within such a short time frame may be entirely possible. https://ift.tt/2KefOup http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit News using http://wochit.com
