Hawaii To Ban Types Of Sunscreens For Coral Reef Protection

State lawmakers in Hawaii have passed a law that bans the sale of sunscreens containing the chemicals oxybenzone and octinoxate. According to studies, these chemicals are harmful to ocean ecosystems. A 2015 paper published in the journal Archives of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology claims about 14,000 tons of sunscreen enter the world's reefs every year. According to Hawaii legislators, the law prohibits the sale and distribution of any sunscreen that contains oxybenzone and octinoxate without a prescription from a licensed physician. https://ift.tt/2FBJj6T http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit News using http://wochit.com
