Hawaii's Big Island Remains On Alert Following Earthquakes, Lava Fissures

On Saturday, Hawaii's Big Island remains on high alert after a series of earthquakes, including a powerful tremor, shook the island and the Kilauea volcano ejected lava into residential areas, forcing hundreds to evacuate. Reuters reports that scientists and local officials warned residents that seismic and volcanic activity may continue following a 6.9 quake which struck the island's southeast corner early Friday afternoon. Tina Neal, a scientist in charge at the USGS Hawaii Volcano Observatory, said, "Until we see earthquake activity dying down and the ground stops moving, it’s likely that this activity is going to continue." Friday also saw several more eruptive lava fissures, each several hundred yards long, in the Leilani Estates subdivision in the Puna District miles from the volcano. https://ift.tt/2JRlPgz http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit News using http://wochit.com
