San Francisco Testing Code To Clear Old Marijuana Convictions

The San Francisco District Attorney’s office is testing an algorithm to clear marijuana convictions. California’s Proposition 64 allows people to petition to have old marijuana convictions removed. The algorithm automatically reviews individuals' petitions and their associated criminal records. “California has decriminalized recreational cannabis use, but a marijuana conviction continues to serve as a barrier to employment, housing, student loans and more. Lack of access to employment and housing are two primary drivers of recidivism, so until we clear these records it’s government that is effectively holding these people back and impeding public safety.” San Francisco District Attorney George Gascón Individuals with violent felonies are ineligible. Code for America claims the automated review algorithm can process hundreds of records in minutes. https://ift.tt/2KqRcij http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit News using http://wochit.com
