Some Black Women Are Rooting For Meghan Markle

American actress Meghan Markle is set to wed Prince Harry on May 19. Meghan identifies as a biracial woman. Her mom is black and her dad is white. According to a Reuters report, news that Meghan, a woman of color, will be joining the British royal family has been met with mixed reviews. Some African-Americans are celebrating, what they believe is a historic event. 33 year-old Ishea Brown says, “These are things that growing up I never would have thought that we would see.” To celebrate Meghan joining the royal family, she's hosting a “Black A.F. Royal Wedding Brunch” and is using the hashtag of #WakandaWeddingWeekend, referencing the fictional African country popularized by the movie, “Black Panther.” Other people within the African-American community interviewed for the report, have no interest. Social commentator Kim Love said on Twitter, “Meghan Markle’s marriage does not represent a win for black women ... Besides, she doesn’t even self-identify as a ‘black woman,’ so please stop forcing it.” Claire Osborne, a 34-year-old stage manager added, "We’re kind of rooting for her because you see someone in that world who looks like you and representation matters.” https://ift.tt/2k3O5ln http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit News using http://wochit.com
