The Marine Corps To Roll Out Upgraded New Sniper Rifle


Business Insider reports the Marine Corps has confirmed that its rolling out the new Mk13 Mod 7 sniper rifle, replacing the M40, versions of which the Corps' snipers have carried since the Vietnam War. Lt. Col. Paul Gillikin, Infantry Weapons team lead at Marine Corps Systems Command, said in the official release, "When the Mk13 Mod 7 is fielded, it will be the primary sniper rifle in the Marine Corps." According to Business Insider, putting the Mk13 into wider use will also give Marine scout snipers the same capabilities as NATO forces.
