The US Coast Guard Wants To Take The Fight To Columbian Cocaine Traffickers

According to a report by Business Insider, after hitting a low point in 2012, cocaine production in Columbia has boomed, rising 134% between 2013 and 2016. Columbia has since become the world's top producer, cranking out more cocaine than Peru and Bolivia combined. Over 90% of that cocaine enters the United States through the Mexico/Central America corridor, which is where the US Coast Guard and its partners try to ebb the flow. Coast Guard Commandant Adm. Paul Zukunft said at the Heritage Foundation on April 12, "We seized over a ton and a half of cocaine 600 miles west of the Galapagos Islands." However, Zukunft wants to take the fight closer to the source. He went on to say, "We need better policing by the Colombians in their riverine systems. [We'd] be happy to help them there." https://ift.tt/2IgFjOp http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit News using http://wochit.com
