Trump Didn't Know The Difference Between HIV and HPV, Do You?

Bill Gates told of an interaction with Donald Trump where the president asked... if there was a difference between the sexually transmitted diseases HPV and HIV. HPV and HIV are nothing alike and worth knowing about, especially if you are sexually active. HPV stands for human papillomavirus. HIV is the human immunodeficiency virus. HPV is the most common STI, affecting 79 million Americans, most in their late teens and early 20s. If left untreated, it can cause serious health problems, including cervical cancer. HIV weakens the immune system by destroying important cells that fight disease and infection. HIV can lead to AIDS if left untreated but thanks to modern medicine, the virus is much easier to control via drugs that suppress its growth in your system. There are vaccines for HPV but no known cure for HIV currently, just treatment. According to the CDC, 1.1 million Americans have HPV but 1 in 7 don’t know it. Fortunately, HIV testing is covered cost-free by ACA compliant insurance plans. HPV and HIV can be devastating if untreated but both are preventable and treatable. Safer sex means using condoms, going for STI and STD testing regularly, and getting info from fact based sex-ed sources. Protect and educate yourself and your partners!
